As we all know, the success of any business is directly related to the people working within it. And Praseumo is no different. In recent years, we’ve seen a growth in both our organisation and industry and whilst it is great, it has meant change. Change in the way we work, how we work and the people we work with. When an industry grows faster than the resources available within in it, in order to attract the right staff, you have to adapt to suit the need of the market. So. Let’s talk about Flex (baby!) and how we’ve made it work for us.
Whether you are fully supportive, slightly sceptical or absolutely against the idea of flexible working within your organisation, there’s no escaping the fact that all employees have the legal right to request flexible working. Whatever your opinion on this hot-topic, we wanted to share with you how three fantastic women of Praesumo are really making it work for us! We’ve never believed in keeping our employees tied to the desk from 9am – 5pm in order to ensure the work is done. Sam, Katie and Lauren are responsible for helping to keep the wheels of Praesumo turning and they do this (brilliantly!) with a flexible approach to being in the office.
Katie Haxton, Praesumo Office Manager, is responsible for diary management, client and candidate liaising, administration and general secretarial duties. She explains how working for Praesumo has made being a working mum possible: “As a single Mum with limited support around me, I struggled for some time in finding a role that not only offered me a challenge and growth opportunity but also allowed me flexible working conditions. Working for a business that truly cares about the welfare of its employees and their home life has been utterly refreshing. This modern approach means I have complete peace of mind when it comes to creating a work/life balance for myself and my family. I come into the office three full days a week. Confidently knowing I can occasionally work from home or switch my days to accommodate my needs as a single parent, releases any potential anxieties so I can fully focus on my role as Office Manager. As parents, we are often caught unaware by our children’s needs. There are also many milestones. With flexible working and by planning in advance, I can be present for such occasion’s without having to lose a day in the office. I want to succeed as a parent and in my career. Working for Praesumo has made me believe this is absolutely possible.”
Finance Director, Samantha Dobney, also find’s Praesumo’s approach inspirational: “Being able to work flexibly is so important to me as I have a young family. Balancing two youngsters is hard enough without the added stress of inflexible working arrangements. I work a set number of hours each week and I’m in the office on pre-agreed days of the week, but the ability to have a flexible approach to my time in the office makes things a lot easier. I was made redundant whilst on maternity leave with my first child, so have first-hand experience of new mother’s being treated unfairly in the workplace. Unfortunately, it’s not uncommon and I really appreciate the approach Praesumo take to making being a working mum that little bit easier. Flexible working means I can achieve a happy work and family life balance.
Lauren Howatson, our Marketing Consultant also explains that it isn’t that difficult to ensure you are treating employees equally and fairly: “Being flexible is not just about ‘giving in’ and ‘setting a precedent for accepting everyone’s request’, it is about getting the best work from the best people qualified, whilst not demanding they be in the office for 8, 9 or 10 hours a day, 5 days a week. Working for Praesumo on a consultancy basis means I am able to work remotely, be in the office when required and get the work done by splitting my working day up so I do the main bulk of my work load in the evening when childcare isn’t an issue. In return, I am trustworthy and honest with both my time and workload whilst always giving 100% to the projects I’m working on”.
Praesumo understands that working Mums, like everyone else, want to progress, do well in their job and to achieve in their careers. Aaron Henning, Praseumo Partner explains that: “We pride ourselves on being able to offer the support and understanding to empower women in the workplace. In return, we are proud to work with talented, dedicated and committed team players who we can trust to get the job done. All three women working flexibly within our organisation had built careers with their skills, knowledge and determination making them in high demand prior to starting a family. We recognise the talent that is available if you trust and empower those who have flexible working needs and adapt your organisation to suit demand.”
Katie, Sam and Lauren are all proving that being flexible can work exceptionally well, both for the employee and the organisation they work for. If you’re a working mum or are looking for flexible working options, we’d be interested in hearing from you. Contact us today.
